Plateau Group Says Recent Killings in the State Preventable if Necessary Security Actions were In Place

A Plateau socio-cultural group, Plateau Our Heritage, (POH) has hinted that the killings that occurred in Kwi Riyom LGA and Dong Community of Jos North LGA which led to the death of scores could had been prevented if the right actions were put in place following security information made available on same. The expressed sadness by the new wave of terror that has enveloped parts of the northern part of the State.

The group posited that being that the killings happened shortly after the Nigerian police force has alerted that Nigerians; especially from Plateau and neighbouring States to be on alert as the dreaded Boko Haram is regrouping is most unfortunate.

“Where will the common man run to? considering the anxiety associated with the late  larrival of rain which has provoked the need for the rural farming populace to mobilise to farm?” the group queried.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the group, Hon. Alex Kwapnoe and Secretary, Cmr. Friday Bako said it is disturbed by the inaction of the state government since the police alert sounded.

POH categorically stated that the issue has gone beyond a part of the state, but the entire state which must be protected going by the recent happenings.

While the body appreciated the state government for efforts to tackle security issues in the past, it disclosed that the efforts are not enough to make the people sleep with both eyes closed.

The group threw a challenge to the Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong’s adminstration to change its approaches to these mundane issues or the State will stand to be restricted to the powers of these elements that are bent on sabotaging Plateau and her people and gain more territory for their nefarious actions.

“We read the executive governor’s concerns over the killings in Jos and Riyom in particular, but we are asking that the governor’s words must be beyond frowning but must be matched with action if truly our rural inhabitants would have a stake in this year’s farming”

“Please, our people must be protected; the stakes of insecurity are high” the group concluded.
