Plateau govt explains logic behind completing abandoned projects

By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

Plateau state government on Monday explained the   decision  it is completing  projects abandoned by previous administrations in the state.

Plateau State commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Yakubu Dati made this declaration while fielding questions on a radio programme in Jos.

He said it is   not borne out of shortage of ideas, rather, it is aimed at reducing human sufferings through uplifting the quality of life of the vast majority of the people.

Dati  posited that as a government of the people, the Rescue Administration in the state was determined to carry on with abandoned projects as long as they were people oriented and people centred.

“We are changing the perception of people about continuity in governance. The narrative had been that as a governor, you don’t complete your predecessor’s projects so that credit will not go to him or her. That is wrong. Any project by any leader belongs to the people because the funds are for the people, ” Dati said.

He gave examples of the completion of the Highland Bottling Company Barkin Ladi and the Fertilizer Blending Bokkos as abandoned projects completed by the Lalong administration which are providing means of livelihood for many people.

The Commissioner however pointed out that the disposition of the Plateau State governor shows that he believes in justice, fairness and fair play and would not want individuals to be associated with particular projects because they were all built with state funds.

He revealed that because of governor Lalong’s commitment to the completion of abandoned projects, he was recently commended by former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, and President Muhammadu Buhari during his recent visit to the state a couple of months ago.
