Plateau Governorship Appeal Hearing: I Did Not Lose My Appeal – General JT Useni corrects THISDAY Newspaper Report

The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State in the 2019 election, Lt. Gen (Rtd() Jeremiah Timbut Useni has described a report by THISDAY Newspaper that he had lost his appeal at the Court of Appeal as false and misleading.

In the report on www.thisdaylive.Com, (https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/11/23/appeal-court-affirms-elections-of-ganduje-tambuwal-lalong/ ) , the paper had cast the headline: Appeal Court Affirms Elections of Ganduje, Tambuwal, Lalong.

Gen Useni points to this as a false representation of what transpired in the Court of Appeal on Friday, November 22nd, 2019.

“What the Editor, who was the source of that report relayed was the decision of the lower tribunal delivered on October 2nd, 2019 which was mischievously presented as judgement of the Court of Appeal on my case.”

“I was personally in the court, and I heard the Presiding Judge of the panel Honourable Justice J.O Bada announce it publicly that he had reserved judgement on the case. So, when did he give the date for the judgement that only one news medium in Nigeria has confidently reported it? In addition, the time for the Court to deliver its decision on the matter is still running. It has not run out of time. ”

Senator Useni observed that such misinformation can create unnecessary tension in the polity. He therefore advises media practitioners to always verify their facts before publishing.

General Useni concluded that “Contrary to the impression created by the report by THISDAY, we in the PDP and our numerous supporters remain very hopeful that our appeal will succeed.”
