In strict adherence to the provision of section 121 sub-section 1 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang today submitted a budget estimate of Two Hundred and Ninety-Five Million, Four Hundred and Thirty-Four and Thirty-Four Million, Five Hundred and Sixty-Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty-Four Naira Only (N295,434,568,464) to the Plateau State House of Assembly for the 2024 Fiscal Years.
The Budget tagged “Budget of New Beginning” will have a recurrent expenditure of N157,563,316,472 representing 53%, while Capital Expenditure is expected to gulp the total sum of N137,871,251,992 representing approximately 47% of the budget estimate.
For some Sub-sectoral allocation, administration is expected to take N22,187,889,445, and Agriculture N10,186,558,417. While Land, Housing and Urban Development is expected to gulp the sum of N20,627,993,898 which the Governor said will handle issues of land compensation, streets naming and housing projects in the State; Water, Sanitation and Energy will get N15,988,944,486.
Education is to get the sum of N10,495,619,707 and Health will gulp N5,453,801,200 to address health-related issues of the State, especially projects and programmes that have direct impact on the lives of the Citizens.
The sum of N14,376,980,00 has been allocated for Works and Transport while Women, Youth and Sports are expected to get N1,327,470,000.
Governor Mutfwang hinted that the proposed budget estimate is higher than the approved budget for 2023 with N145,483,233,873 owing to the fact that his present administration is committed to implement a budget that could add value to the socio-economic development of the State and better the lives of the Citizens.
He appealed to the State House of Assembly to peruse and deliberate on the budget while seeking their mutual understanding and cooperation in the speedy passage of the budget to enable his administration commence implementation in good time.
He lauded the State Assembly for the support he has been enjoying since its inauguration. He also appreciated the Citizens of the State for what he termed “overwhelming support”he has enjoyed since assumption of office and assured them that his administration remain committed and steadfast in its quest to reposition the State for peace and prosperity.
“As I have always maintained Justice, Equity and Fairness shall continually be our watchwords” he said.
