Plateau establish golf academy

Plateau governor Simon Lalong ,on Tuesday said the state has established a kids golf academy in Jos the state capital.
“We decided to establish the academy in order to train our children and later produce professionals who will match other professionals in the world.”
“Our administration is determined to boost Toursim and golfing attracts toursim to Plateau.
Governor Lalong , made this known at the Lamingo Golf Club Jos during the 11th edition of Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria( PGAN) qualifying school in Jos .
The governor, who expressed delight that golf was now being given major attention, said the academy, would also make youths more active .
“I am calling on parents to bring their children to the golf academy to train, you never can tell they can become the future Tiger Woods .
Lalong also said ” sporting is critical for youth development which will make them both physically and mentally alert.
This is the first time the occasion would be holding in Jos”.
Lalong further explained that golf can be used for wealth creation in the country and urged stakeholders and Nigerians to invest in the game.
‘As Nigerians, we must recognise efforts in sporting as well as understand the importance of golf in the society, investing in it will go a long way to boost economy as well as produce professionals who can match up with others in the world.
He added that he will continue to give support to sports in the country especially golf.
Speaking Earlier, the captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Mr Dapoet Tang thanked the PGA of Nigeria for bringing the event to Jos
He said I want to call on all corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to support the PGAN by sponsoring their tournaments and programmes because of the immense benefits there in
He said golf would strategically open up ways for tourism in the state, adding that hosting this event in Jos would no doubt experience an upsurge in economic activities and thereby increase the wealth of the city and overall development of the state.
Also speaking at the occasion, the director of the PGA of Nigeria Samson Lawal said this is the first time that this is the first time that the school is registering the highest number of participants in the history of the PGA of Nigeria
