Plateau Electoral Commission Sets Date for Local Government Council Elections

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has officially announced the date and timetable for the upcoming local government elections. During a press briefing held at the PLASIEC headquarters in Jos, Chairman Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak and his team revealed that elections will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm across the 17 local government councils in Plateau State.

In compliance with relevant sections of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission Law, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Electoral Act, the election schedule and guidelines have been released. Prospective candidates are required to obtain nomination forms for the offices of Chairmen and Councilors between August 9 and August 13, 2024, at the PLASIEC headquarters.

The detailed election timetable includes key dates for campaign activities, party primaries, submission and verification of nomination forms, and the final list of candidates. Campaigns are set to commence on July 12, 2024, and the final day for campaigning will be October 7, 2024.

The commission urges all political parties and stakeholders to support and cooperate with PLASIEC to ensure a free, fair, credible, and transparent election process.
