Plateau citizens express worries over non appointment of aides by Lalong
By Issac Wilberforce
Governor Simon Lalong has yet to announce key appointments, especially those that do not require the state House of assembly approval, three weeks after his inauguration for a second term.
Citizens of the state , Retired senior civil servants, politicians and technocrats, who spoke to our correspondent said the delay in announcing key appointments could create a big image issue for the administration.
Lalong had before his inauguration for second term on May 29, 2019, dissolved his cabinet and directed commissioners and other aides to hand over .
Lazarus Ajang a citizen of Plateau said “The delay is creating apprehension in the polity,” “It has also widened the room for speculations and mutual suspicions among politicians in different parts of the state
,” ‘Delay not good for the government’. , there are key appointments that ought to have been made by now like the SGS Chief of Staff, media aide and all those that do not require approval of the state house of assembly .
Pam Titus another citizen of Plateau said The delay is not good for the government. “Whatever that is holding back the consideration of appointees should be immediately sorted out because citizens are worried and they are expressing reservations.
Nanpon Tali said I believe our Governor is waiting for Mr President to announce his aide before he appoints his own , I learnt that some aides especially media aides who performed woefully in the last administration are mounting pressure to return back , we call on our Governor to be ruthless.
Tali said it is Obvious Lalong can’t administer good governance in the state alone, though he is the visioneer, but he needs competent and capable hands who have the fear of God to run a righteous government.
This would be seen from his first three appointments in the office of the Secretary to Government of the State (SGS), his Chief of Staff and most importantly his Director of Press and Public Affairs, who to a very large extent should have practice Journalism and have mutual and better understanding of the workings of the media and journalists for both the print and electronic media.
These appointments are critical to the survival and effective function of Government in the delivery of dividends of democracy as they give proper direction with the directive of the Governor in running a near perfect and righteous administration.
Lalong, who has worked with most of his aids in the last administration knows who did what, at what point that deserves to be returned obvious that Lalong can’t administer good governance in the state alone, though he is the visioneer, but he needs competent and capable hands who have the fear of God to run a righteous government.

Many have believed that having a reputable politician who have practiced Journalism in a national media to function as Director of Press, Special Adviser on Media and Commissioner for Information and Communication will help Lalong deliver on his vision of rescuing and taking Plateau to the Next Level.

It is interesting to note that the media suffered tremendously in the last two years especially after the demise of late Emmanuel Nanle not because the Governor is not media friendly as some of the media aides to the Governor took advantage of their position for personal gains, leaving Journalists the image of the Governor in bad shape.
It is interesting that Lalong has made remarkable achievements in the last four years, particularly the “Lalong Legacy Projects” across the 17 Local Government Areas that most people are not aware of issues that affects the Government.
Meanwhile the Simon Lalong led administration has reiterated that in this second term of office, it will not be business as usual.
He said “As leaders, we shall always strive as to be role models of being in the world with you and not over or against the people.
