Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has officially affirmed Mr. Sunday Garba Biggs as its gubernatorial candidate.

In a heavily attended affirmation ceremony, party leadership, delegates, and stakeholders from across the 17 Local Government Areas converged to ratify Biggs’ candidacy. Party officials noted that the exercise followed strict democratic protocols, including the formal accreditation of members using the official party register, aimed at cementing internal unity.

Delivering his acceptance speech shortly after the affirmation, an emotional yet resolute Biggs described the day as a “date with history.” The centerpiece of his address was a major political commitment to the state’s longstanding power-sharing agreements.

Acknowledging that Plateau citizens deeply uphold the principle of zoning, Biggs pledged on his honor to serve only a single four-year term if elected, in order to complete the eight-year rotation cycle designated for the Plateau Central Senatorial Zone.

”Our affirmation is not merely an endorsement of an individual; it is a call to service, sacrifice, and responsibility,” Biggs declared. “I pledge on my honor… that when elected, our administration will serve a one-term tenure of four years to complete the eight years of the Central Zone.”

Reiterating the slogan “Plateau is PDP, and PDP is Plateau,” Biggs extended a hand of fellowship to fellow contenders and party stakeholders. He emphasized that the primary process was not a personal victory but a “triumph of unity, dialogue, and shared purpose” that proves the party is ready to govern.

Turning his attention to the general election and the state of the state, the newly minted candidate outlined a governance roadmap tailored to tackle pressing local challenges. He identified key priority areas for his incoming campaign, which include:

  • Security & Peacebuilding: Restoring safety and confidence in vulnerable communities.
  • Economic Empowerment: Creating sustainable job opportunities for the youth, supporting local farmers, and boosting small businesses.
  • Social Infrastructure: Revamping education, healthcare delivery, and critical infrastructure deficits across the state.
  • Inclusivity: Pledging an administration grounded in integrity, fairness, and accountability for all citizens regardless of faith or background.

Biggs concluded his address by rallying his central campaign movement, popularly known as the BiggThingsComing family, urging supporters to remain peaceful, focused, and mobilized as the political machinery transitions into full-scale, statewide campaigning.

With the PDP ticket now settled, political analysts expect the Plateau gubernatorial race to intensify as other major parties finalize their strategies to challenge the PDP’s deep-rooted influence in the state.
