By Golok Nanmwa,

As the 2019 elections gets closer  ,a Group of elders in Plateau State operating under the aegis of Equity and Justice Forum has drummed support for the state governor Simon Lalong for a second tenure in office.

The forum also strongly  reaffirmed to maintain the existing  zoning convention for the gubernatorial seat to remain in the Southern Senatorial Zone of the state for another four years after which it should move to the central  zone in 2023 and subsequently to the Northern zone

This was contained in a communique  issued to newsmen in Jos on Tuesday by the group and jointly signed by Barrister Maimako Umar Shittien chairman of the group and Chief Samuila Danko  Makama  reads that forum commended the inclusive character of governance in Plateau State where all interests in relation to religion, ethnicity, gender and age are being accommodated in the current administration of the state, which has enabled the Governor to embark on developmental projects  ,especially in road construction, renovation, construction and development  of primary schools across the seventeen local government area of the state and other projects which are on going.

The communique  reads that the equity and Justice forum is a Political platform in Plateau State that is committed to the advancement  of democracy and good governance at all levels in the state and Nigeria at large, the group came into existence as a Political action group on the Plateau to challenge the impunity that the last administration wanted to impose a person on the good people of Plateau on the eve of the build up to the 2015 general  elections .

As a group we rose in defense of democracy and the Plateau cause which history shall continue to uphold

Our meeting which took place at the Residence of Barr Maimako Oumar-Shitten last weekend was the first for the year and had in attendance notable  people like Ignatius Longjan, former Deputy governor  Plateau State, Dr Johnson Zogore,  former member, house of representatives, Professor Garba Sharubutu, Professor Shem Binda,Hon Diket  Plang, Hon James Bakfur, NDE Joshua Walked, Barrister Danjuma Maina, Ambassador Binfa Selchum, Dr Charles Gonyok, Alhaji Shehu Massalla amongst over 170 delegates from the seventeen local government areas of Plateau State.

The forum discussed a number of issues concerning the current Democratic administration in Plateau State led by Hon Simon Lalong, the zoning arrangements and other issues

It was agreed  that members of the Equity and Justice forum should put every machinery on ground to ensure that they deliver their polling units and wards to the All Progressive Congress APC in the forthcoming local government elections in order to consolidate on the gains realised so far,

The forum  took note of the briefing by the Director General Plateau Peace Agency  ,Mr Joseph Lengmang  ,in the efforts of Gov Simon Lalong to find a lasting solution to the farmers and herdsmen conflict in the state
