PEPSA DG, Samuel Dapiya Urges Plateau Citizens to Prioritize Environmental Sanitation for a Cleaner, Safer and Healthier State

The Citizens of Plateau State have been admonished to prioritize environmental sanitation and own the process for a cleaner, healthier and safer State. The Director General of the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), Hon. Samuel Dapiya made the charge during the flag-off of the distillation of drainages at Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Good News Ahmadu Bello Way Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State on Saturday 30th March, 2024.

He said his agency, PEPSA is working round the clock to make Plateau clean and safe in order to mitigate against flooding. He said the clearing of major drainages will take the agency Ten Days and it is expected to yield the desired result of achieving a cleaner and safer environment. He commended Net Cafe and Onigbinde Stores for making sure their drainages are cleared and urged others to emulate that.

He lauded Governor Caleb Mutfwang for being supportive of the Agency to achieve its overall mandate and for the purposeful leadership he is providing.

North Central Coordinator of National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Appiah Jude charged the people to discontinue indiscriminate dumping of waste and ensure they make the environment friendly by complying with environmental laws, policies, standards and regulations since environmental issues affect all.

Director of Waste PEPSA, Mrs Naomi Longlam spoke on the need for the Citizens to work together to minimize the high volume of waste within Jos/Bukuru Metropolis for clean and healthy living on the State. According to her, PEPSA joined the International Day of Zero Waste being observed globally today by cleaning up drainages.

The General Manager of Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), Arc. Hart Bankat expressed dissatisfaction with the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by the People and urged the people to take responsibility of clearing and cleaning draining around their houses, businesses and workplaces.
