PDP National Chairmanship Aspirants Signs Accord on Prevention of Violence and Acceptance of Election Results at the National Convention

The National Chairmanship Aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today, signed an accord on prevention of violence and acceptance of election results at the forthcoming Elective National Convention of the Party.

The accord was signed in the presence of the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON, National Secretary, High Ben Obi, CON, National Organizing Secretary, Senator Abdul Ningi, National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, National Treasurer and Financial Secretary, Senator Odion Ogbesia, National Women Leader, Hajiya Adodo Yusuf and other party leaders and supporters of the aspirants at the Party’s National Secretariat, Abuja.

Also present at the signing ceremony are six out of the eight National Chairmanship Aspirants as follows:- Chief Rasheed Ladoja, former Governor of Oyo state, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman and CEO of DAAR Communication PLC, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State,
Professor Tunde Adeniran, former Minister of Education, Prince Uche Secondus, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP and Chief Jimi Agbaje, PDP 2015 Governorship Aspirant in Lagos State. Professor Taoheed Adodoja and Chief Olabode George were unavoidably absent.

During the signing ceremony, the National Chairman of the Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi again re-emphasized the commitment of the National Caretaker Committee to maintain the zoning arrangements according to the resolutions of the May 21st 2016 National Convention that zoned the Presidency to the North and the National Chairman to the South.

The National Chairman declared that the National Caretaker Committee with the Aspirants met earlier in the month and resolved to work together as one family, saying that the unnecessary social media messages against some aspirants are propagated by some people to sow seeds of discord amongst the aspirants and condemned it in strong terms.

He encouraged the aspirants and their supporters to maintain the terms of the accord and thanked them for the wonderful initiative. The National Chairman concluded by saying that the Accord is the first in the history of the PDP and the first in the history of political activities in Nigeria, emphasizing that the party will conduct a peaceful, transparent, free, fair and credible National Convention in December 2017.

Responding on behalf of the Chairmanship Aspirants, Chief Rasheed Ladoja, the former Governor of Oyo state pledged their total resolve to adhere to all the terms as contained in the agreed document and to have a fruitful and hitch-free National Convention in December 2017.

The Aspirants pledged to remain in the party even after the Convention and support whoever emerges victorious at the end of the exercise. He also promised that none of the Aspirants will decamp or encourage their supporters to leave the party.
