PDP accuses Gov Lalong of celebrating NPLF trophy instead of visiting scene of attack

PEOPLES Democratic Party in Plateau State has condemned the All Progressive Congress led government in the state for its posture to the attack in Bassa local government area of the state which led to the death of twenty people over the weekend saying the governor instead of undertaking on the spot assessment of the area appear to have had a better priority in celebrating an football trophy.

In swift reaction, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Daniel Manjang said the statement of PDP is nothing but a mischief adding Governor Lalong had condemned the unfortunate incident and sent a high powered delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government Hon. Rufus Bature.

It would be recalled that some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Ancha Community of Bassa local government area of the state on Friday and killed no fewer than 20 people while the football team Plateau United the following Saturday was crowned the NPLF title with various top government functionaries in attendance.

Apparently reacting to the massacre of innocent souls in Bassa, the State PDP in a statement signed by its publicity Secretary, Mr John Akans declared thus: “It was our wish that the state governor had undertaken an on-the-spot assessment of the area to comfort the traumatised community and initiate action against the killers. But he appeared to have had a better priority in celebrating a football trophy at about the same time”

The party however expressed shocked by the news of the attack on  Ancha community of Irigwe Chiefdom of  Bassa local government  of Plateau State which led to the killing of 21 people by suspected herdsmen on Friday 8th September, 2017 adding that it  was an intensely wicked act of humans against fellow humans, and there can be no justification for such widespread cold murder.

It therefore extends its heartfelt condolences to the Bra Ngwe Irigwe, Rev Ronku Akka (Rtd), the Irigwe nation, the Utu Ugo Kiche, Mal Adamu Adiwu,  the Chairman of Bassa Joint Traditional Council, the loving people of Bassa local government and indeed Plateau State over the black day.

In his reaction to the statement, the Special Adviser to Governor Lalong on Media Affairs, Mr Daniel Manjang cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party in the state against playing politics with the unfortunate incident adding that government is made up of different component which must be service simultaneously if the need arise.

He said it would callous act for any group or person to say the governor abandoned the people of Ancha over the incident adding that the governor sent a powerful delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government to the affected community.

“The governor had spoken on the matter and condemned it in totality, when the situation is properly assessed the governor would visit the community. I am appealing to Plateau people to guard their utterances and avoid any act that could cause disaffection and shun politicians who may want to cause commotion with the unfortunate incident” he warned.
