Following the recurrent attacks that has bedeviled communities in Barkin
Ladi LGA, a Community Leader from Gashish District of the Council said
about 200, 000 people from 17 villages have been displaced, over 160
persons killed and over 100 people were injured in the attacks, since 2012
to date.
The Community Leader, Barrister Ezekiel Mandyau, made the disclosure, while
fielding questions from journalists in Jos on Saturday.
Mandyau said, “Since 2012 around the period late Senate Gyang Dantong and
Hon. Gyang Fulani, were killed, about 200, 000 persons have been displaced
from 17 villages in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA.
“While over 160 persons have died, over 100 others injured as a result of
the recurrent attacks by fulani herdsmen in our communities all in the last
three years.
The community leader lamented all efforts to dialogue and leave in peace
has proved abortive.
“Even though many of the fulanis have approached me and said they want
peace. But the challenge they have is any Fulani man who opposes whatever
evil plans the others are hatching is killed.
Mandyau further lamented the inability of constituted authorities to take
necessary action against them, saying most times when people who are known
to be perpetrating such crimes are arrested, the security officials will
still release them, “which is a threat to the community”.
The Community Leader, also said, “the cattle rustling that is reported in
the media is done by fulanis, sometimes the steal from each other, making
it look as if is the natives that are stealing the cows”.
He added that, recently two STF personnel were shot by the Fulanis in Ngar
village of Barkin Ladi LGA, one died, but the other is receiving treatment
in the hospital.
He called on security operatives and other constituted authorities to live
up to the constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and
properties
