ONLINE LECTURES AND THE NIGERIA UNIVERSITY SYSTEM AT COVID19 PANDEMIC SEASON :THE PENDULUM
By Akyala Ishaku Ph.D

With the mathematical model from Harvard University on Covid19 PANDEMIC projection, the likelihood that Universities across the globe will still be closed till July is a possibility. All Universities in USA, Europe, Asia,Australia have resolved in online lectures using Zoom and WEBINAR. Will Nigeria Universities take the challenge? I am slated to attend 4 international conferences in USA,Netherlands, Algeria and Ghana between February and March. All where cancelled but we attended the conference via online and all presentations were made via webinar and Zoom.

WAY FORWARD

The Federal Ministry of Education through the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) should support students with stipend and mandate all Lecturers to deliver their lectures via Zoom and WEBINAR. We cannot afford to loose 4 months out of our academic calendar in this 21st century due to Coronavirus outbreak. Zoom and WEBINAR are simple app that can be installed in any android phone.

We must find a way to connect to students at the comfort of their homes to take lectures as we begin to send them Palliatives in form of data for such purpose.
