It appears there was no respite in the ongoing peace pact between Fulani herdsmen and the outlawed Ombatse militia group of the Eggon tribe in Nasarawa state, as the cult group was said to have, attacked a Fulani settlement in Nasarawa State, killing four persons.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the attack, but feelers believe this may not be unconnected to perpetual attacks by Fulani marauders in the area.

The incident, which happened at Fadama-Bouna in Lafia Local Government Area of the state, on Friday evening, was said to have created tension in the area, as Fulani herdsmen were said to have vacated the place since Saturday for fear of being further attacked by the Ombatse group.

Investigations by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the crisis started when Fulani herdsmen were rearing their cattle through Eggon dominated area, thereby destroying farm-crops, a development that irked Eggon people and later resulted into crisis.

It was learnt further that the Eggon, thereafter, informed Ombatse group, who immediately mobilised and took over the area.

When contacted on Sunday, the state secretary, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Alhaji Mohammed Hussaini, confirmed the burning of Fulani settlement in the area, adding that two women and their children were still missing.

When contacted on phone, the national president of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Mr Chris Mamman, said he was not aware of the crisis, while advising Fulani herdsmen to report the case to the police or get those involved arrested.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismail Numan, confirmed the incident, saying nobody died and that normalcy had returned to the village.

He added that only one person was injured, adding that investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstance that led to the clash.
