The Federal Government has announced the date for the commencement of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.
The 3-day census which is expected to take care of persons, houses and households is scheduled to hold from 3rd to 5th May, 2023 across the 36 States including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Dr Garba Abari, a Member of the Publicity and Advocacy Committee on the 2023 National Population and Housing Census made the pronouncement in Abuja on Sunday when he was hosted as a guest on the News Agency of Nigeria Forum.
According to him, the postponement of the Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections informed the decision of the National Population Commission (NPC) to also shift the all important national exercise which was earlier slated for 29th March, 2023 to April, 2023 and later adjusted to hold from 3rd to 5th May, 2023.
“That change by INEC made it mandatory for us to also adjust the date for the conduct of the exercise.
“The census had to be put forward from the initial date of March 29 to April 2, now to May 3 to 5.” he said.
He said the Commission is ready and well prepared to carry out the exercise which he hinted is significant to aid national planning and the provision of developmental projects across the Nation.
The last population census which pegged the Nation’s population at 106 million people held in 2006.
