NMDC seeks Partnership with Malaysian Smelting Corporation to Advance Research in Solid Minerals in Nigeria.

The National Metallurgical Development Centre, (NMDC) Jos which is a Research Institutes under the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing has express desire to partner with a Malaysian Smelting Corporation (MSC) to advance Research and Development activities in the Solid minerals sector of the Country.

Acting Director-General and Chief Executive of NMDC Engr. Emmanuel Mbaya disclose this yesterday in Jos when the Malaysian Smelting Company in conjunction with the Nigerian Tin Corporation (NTC) and the Ministry of Mines and steel development visited the Centre in Jos.

Mbaya said the NMDC is desirous of exploring the partnership opportunities to upgrade the Centre machines and equipment, including human capacity development through in-plant training.

He stress that NMDC with it expansive processing and storage facilities could serve as a major TIN supplier to the Malaysian Smelting Corporation and other related Institutions in Malaysia under the envisaged partnership program.

The acting DG regret that Nigeria like Malaysia is richly endowed with solid and industrial minerals which had mostly over the years been mined and sold by Artisanal and small scale miners in their crude form which had robbed the country a huge benefits from Associated minerals contained in the Ores.

Team Leader of the Malaysian Smelting Company Mr Dato’Lee Chung Han while on the visit expressed happiness with the high grade of facilities at NMDC and hope for a rewarding partnership between the NMDC and MSC.
