NMA Plateau Takes Courtesy Visit to Nigerian Bar Association Jos Zone, Seeks Ways for Greater Collaboration & Synergy

NMA PLATEAU COURTESY CALL TO THE EXCO, NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA).

The State Officers’ Committee, Nigerian Medical Association, Plateau State Branch, led by its Chairman, Dr Innocent Emmanuel, paid a courtesy call to the EXCO of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jos Zone, today, Friday, 2nd October, 2020.

The NMA Chairman in his remarks applauded the NBA for its pivotal roles in standing up for the downtrodden and eliminating suffering.
He went on to enlighten the NBA on the aim & objectives of the NMA and sued for areas of collaboration and synergy towards the creation of a just order where justice and good health are prioritized for the overall well being of all Nigerians and also craved for NBA’s support to NMA in areas of health legislation and increasing awareness of Doctors on their rights as well as interpretation of the medical ethics.

In addition, he notified the meeting of the commencement of enrolment into the Contributory Health Scheme on the Plateau through PLASCHEMA, which is intended to provide Health safety nets for the populace and craved for lawyers to take advantage of the scheme by enrolling themselves and their families as well as help inform their clients of the scheme.

The NBA Chairman, Barr. Yakubu S. Bawa in his own remarks, congratulated the new SOC for the confidence reposed in them by members and wished them all the best during their tenure in office.
He appreciated the NMA for conceiving such a visionary idea to partner with NBA as true professionals.
Describing NMA’s visit as “epoch making”, he assured of NBA’s support in helping physicians achieve on their set goals for the good of humanity. He used the medium to invite NMA to NBA Jos’ Law Week which comes up in November.

He further requested that NMA obliges the NBA EXCO a opportunity to reciprocate the visit at a date of NMA’s convenience to further build on the new partnership.
The NBA Chairman concluded by affirming their readiness of his EXCO and other lawyers to work closely with Doctors especially in dealing with sexual and violent crimes where he believes both professional associations have a lot to offer in helping victims and also in the prosecution and subsequent conviction of offenders.

Respective speakers on both sides of the delegation spoke on different areas of mutual understanding and cooperation amongst both sets of professionals.

The NMA Chairman subsequently presented copies of MediNews, PLASCHEMA Enrollment Hand book as well as face masks to the NBA Chairman on behalf of the EXCO & members of NBA Jos.

The meeting rounded up with a group photograph session and exchange of pleasantries.
