We join the world to celebrate the universal children’s day. Children are blessings to this world, and their role on nation building cannot be out of placed. The Nigerian child has only cerebrated children’s day from the may 27th, public holiday but the uncertainty of the future remains bleak. The ills of our nation has left its burden most, on the children; and as such, the popular parlance of “Leaders of tomorrow” is only but an illusion because the foundation laid has remained faulted ever since.
I never recovered from the shocked, knowing that approximately 10.5 million kids are out of school. UNESCO further stressed that one out of every five Nigerian Children is out of school. This is clearly a Long night without any hope of a morning light.
The sting of poverty is bequeathed to them for generations. Instead of a well organized upbringing, they are turn breadwinners and streets vitiate. The contemporary problem of child trafficking is still fresh and to worsened it, the baby factory syndrome is more troubling.
Researchers puts situations more scary for the Nigerian child. According to a 2014 survey by the National Population Commission with support from UNICEF and its Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention, 6 out of 10 Nigerian Children experience some forms of physical, emotional or sexual violence and abuse before they reach 18. It is also frightening the alarming rate of sexual abuse of children by adults. The story of the Nigerian child is gloomy and don’t deserve a playback.
The nonchalant attitude of the adult folks to create a memorial path for this next generation remain worrisome. I urge all stakeholders to wake up and chart a new course on how to unravel these uncertainties that abrade the bearing of the Nigerian Child.

As we celebrate the Universal Children’s day, we should go beyond the normal routine of may 27th and Chart a more realistic pathway for our next generation. We cannot continue to neglect the prospect of our nation by downing the development of Nigerian Children.

The general well-being of young Nigerians should be a focal point of government at all levels. Parents are not also left out, they should trained their children on good values. With heavy heart, I wish Nigerians Happy World children’s day. I hope in years to come, we shall celebrates our children not as an annual fun fare but as proud embodied of a better Nigeria.
