A nongovernmental organization, Nigeria Alive Conscience Movement (NACM), has been officially launched in Plateau State with the immediate objective of mobilizing citizens for the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise across the State.
The National Coordinator of the Group and Plateau-born activist, Lokrit Thomas, inaugurated the Plateau State Executive Council, Zonal and Local Government Coordinators, as well as Local Government Executives from Plateau Central. He disclosed that the group is a non-partisan platform committed to mobilizing citizens and driving transformative governance and accountability across the three tiers of government in Nigeria by promoting transparency, integrity, and inclusive development.
He stated that the organization is working assiduously toward achieving the nation’s progress and greatness.
“Our vision is geared toward mobilizing the people to make Nigeria great again, and we are doing that through the correction of narratives that have made the system retrogressive,” he said.
According to him, the group intends to penetrate down to the ward level to enlighten citizens through symposia, market sensitization campaigns, and other impactful strategies that will significantly add value to society. He urged leaders at all levels to remain committed to the core mandate of the group and work diligently toward achieving positive change that will improve the lives of Nigerians.
He decried the decay in infrastructural development, rising insecurity, a poor educational system, and the economic hardships being faced by Nigerians.
Thomas explained that the training was aimed at equipping leaders of the group for the enormous tasks ahead, particularly voter sensitization on Continuous Voter Registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 General Elections. He also spoke on the strategic partnership between the group and INEC.
The Plateau State Coordinator of the Group, Barr. Kwaltamai Adamu, appreciated the National Coordinator for finding them worthy to serve. He hinted that the Plateau Chapter would work to recalibrate the consciousness of the people toward achieving greater progress. He noted that Plateau State, being a melting point of the nation’s politics and democracy as well as home to immense talents and potentials, deserves relevance both nationally and internationally. He also commended Hon. Lokrit Thomas for birthing the movement in the State and for his supportive leadership.
In his paper presentation titled “The Power of Our Votes,” Emmanuel Kwaja, INEC Deputy Head of Voter Education Unit, emphasized the need for citizens to use their votes wisely and elect credible leaders who will prioritize their welfare and societal transformation. He stated that the need for leaders genuinely committed to the nation’s prosperity cannot be overstated.
Kwaja stressed that governance is expected to add value and positively impact the lives of citizens. He also spoke on the need to review and improve the salaries of councillors and primary school teachers to reflect current economic realities.
He applauded NACM for its role in voter education and mobilization, encouraging citizens to register and vote for credible leaders at all levels for national prosperity.
Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ephraim Usman, commended the group for its efforts in changing the mindset of the people and enhancing greater participation in politics and governance. He encouraged Nigerians to be more actively involved in the electoral process, noting that electing credible leaders has the potential to attract transformation and improve living standards.
Former Chairman of Kanke Local Government Council, Hon. Henry Gotip, lauded the contributions of the group to democracy through mobilizing citizens to register with INEC. He stated that the new Electoral Act has returned power to the people, hence the need for greater participation to elect leaders who will be more accountable and responsive to the yearnings of the people.
Dr. Longji Dambo, Coordinator of the Plateau Southern Zone, urged members to develop deep conviction about the group’s vision and run with it passionately. He charged them to be result-oriented and to discard unhealthy sentiments that could hinder the group from achieving its goals.
Participants, who could not hide their excitement, commended the group for the impactful training and pledged to put what they learned into effective use by domesticating the strategies in their communities. They affirmed that the training had better equipped them to carry out their assignments and pledged to propel the group toward achieving its objectives.
Oath of office was administered on the Executives by Barr. Moses Yusuoh Garba, PhD who charged them on value addition and ensure they work diligently.
The two-day event was held from 28th February to 1st March, 2026 at Fajib Hotel Rantya and was well attended.
