Nigeria @ 62: Bayelsa Monarch calls for Unity and Peace ahead of the 2023 General Elections

His Royal Highness Dr Selky Kile Torughedi, the Eyewei the 5th of Azzuzuama, Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State has urged Nigerians, especially Nigerian youths not to allow themselves to be used as willing tools to cause violence as Political Campaigns ahead of the 2023 General Elections, following the commencement campaigns.

He reminded them that no politician or political ambition is worth laying down their lives for, adding that their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are the only way to make their voices heard ahead of the polls.

HRH Dr Selky made this known on Saturday October 1st 2022 after a One-Day Stakeholders Sensitization Program in Collaboration with Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Bassan Clan with the theme “HONOURING THE PAST TREASURING THE PRESENT AND SHAPING THE FUTURE.”

The high points of discussion climaxed with a charge to the Leaderships and Youths of the Various communities in Bassan Clan to unite and solve the security challenges in the Clan.

The guest speaker DR. MESHACH MURUNWEI who spoke on ‘Tackling Security: Maintaining Peace, Interfacing with the IOCs in the light of the Pipeline security Surveillance in the Niger Delta’.

HRH Mathew Gbeghebo the Amananawei of Lobia 1 Community who duly represented the Ibenanawei of Bassan Clan lay emphasizes on the benefit of the one day stakeholder’s submit that it has guided them to live peacefully with one another for progressive development in the Clan.

The Highness’s of the various communities in the Clan Azuzuama, Lobia, Ukubie, Ekeni, Ezetu, Forupa and ukparatubou after giving their remarks, thanked the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douyi Diri for the good works he has done in the state most especially for the riverine communities, they prayed God to give him the strength to build more bridges. They also thanked HRH Dr. Selky Kile Torughedi (Eyewei V) the Amananawei of Azuzuama community for hosting the one day summit and encouraged him to not relent in his efforts to unite the various communities in the Clan to attract meaningful development.

HRH Dr Selky, also had an interactive session with journalists and selected youths to commemorated Occasion of the Nigeria’s 2022 Independence Day Celebration.

HRH High Chief (Dr) Selky Kile Torughedi, the Eyewei the 5th of Azuzuama also called on Niger deltans and indeed all Nigerians to embrace peace as a means in settling disputes ahead of the polls.

He called on all Nigerians to give peace a chance while urging government to also be seen to be fair in responding to the needs of Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or political differences in order to prevent conflicts.

HRH Dr Selky used the opportunity to hail the Federal Government for re-awarding the Pipeline Surveillance and Protection Contract aimed at preventing oil theft in the region. He stressed that this will help end crude oil theft, boost Nigeria’s supplies and National Income.
