In his determination to ensure speedy development, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state, said his administration is to commence the implementation of development levy for all categories of civil servants in the state as a means of generating the much needed revenue for infrastructural development.
Almakura stated this yesterday when he received the report of the transition appraisal committee in his office in Lafia.
He lamented that the current situation where civil servants who constitute less than one percent of the total population of the state are appropriated all the monies that accrue to the state through payment of salaries and other entitlements is not only unfair to the remaining generality of the populace but also immoral.
“A situation where the state expends its entire allocation at the expense of 99 percent of the population is unacceptable. We as people must rationalise on how we can ensure the survival of each and every citizen of Nasarawa State”.
“As a result of that from now onwards it is the responsibility of everyone who earn a living on the state resources to also plough back for commonwealth”.
“Every one that earns salary whether in the state or in the local governments will henceforth pay development levy which hitherto was left in the domain of contractors and suppliers”.
