The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has applauded the gallantry, dexterity and doggedness of the Military personnel as demonstrated in their contributions and sacrifices in ensuring a more united and secured Nation is achieved.
Lt. Gen. Faruk dropped the hint through the Chief of Staff 3 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Rukuba, Brigadier General DD Kurmi during the 2022 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) to mark the 159th Anniversary of the existence of the Nigerian Army which he said is a worthy moment of celebration considering the significance of the Day. A combine service was held at St. Sebastian Military Catholic Church Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Rukuba Jos, Plateau State to commemorate the Day.
He said though the event is coming at a time when insecurity has been heightened owing to the nefarious activities of violent non-state actors such as insurgents, bandits and armed elements of secessionist groups, the Nigerian Army has remained resolute and focused in discharging its constitutional responsibilities towards safeguarding our territorial wealth and people.
“I must therefore commend our gallant Officers and Soldiers especially those in the frontlines for their resolve to fight against all odds. I urge them to remain diligent in the execution of all ongoing offensive operations so as to speedily eliminate the various threats hampering our national security” he said.
According to him, the theme of this year’s celebration “Repositioning the Nigerian Army in a Joint Operation Environment: A Panacea for success in addressing contemporary challenges” was coined as a result of the drive among the leadership of the various services to operate more jointly to optimize output in our operational endeavors.
He reassured of his commitment to accomplishing his vision of having “A Professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defense of Nigeria”
He said the Nigerian Army Day Celebration has historically provided a avenue for showcasing the character of the Nigerian Army as an instrument of national unity, integration and development. “The event is also aimed at demonstrating our state of alertness, combat readiness and capacities in anticipation of likely future hostilities” he hinted.
While speaking on the topic “In the defense of our Country and Faith: the Place of Contentment” and taking his reading from 1 Kings 21:1-29, Major Rev. Fr. Innocent Agoha said contentment is a huge challenge in the present generation and admonished the congregation to emulate Naboth who demonstrated contentment in the face of intimidation which led to his assassination by King Ahab on the advice of his Wife, Jezebel. He said there is great danger in pursuing illegitimate wealth and charged the congregation not to compromise their faith and integrity no matter the situation.
He reminded the Military personnel to have the comprehension that Nigerians are looking up to them to decimate the insecurity bedeviling the Nation.
“No happiness and fulfillment is better than making Heaven after one’s life one earth”
The event was well attended and featured colourful performances from the combine Women Fellowship, Choirs and Bands.
