25th October, 2020.
Mupun Youth Movement (MYM) Pankshin Branch on Sunday 25th October, 2020 held a mega congress meeting at Government Secondary School Pankshin with over sixty members in attendance. The meeting was the first of its kind to draw such a number of participants after many years of being inactive. This particular meeting therefore heralded the renaissance of the branch from its years of comatose.
The chairman of the branch Comrade Villong Desben who was represented by the secretary Simtong Julius in his welcome address said he was overwhelmed by such an encouraging number of attendees and challenged everyone to be committed in no small measure to the growth of the branch.
“I want you to know that our inheritance (Mupun) is bigger than just an individual, though we are all from different villages, families, backgrounds but we still have the same blood running in our veins…as young people, the future of Mupun is in our hands and so we must rise up to our responsibilities collectively to move Mupun internationally”, the chairman said.
Top on the agenda was the opening of a bank account for the branch. In that light, the chairman announced to the delight of members that efforts have been made and the branch now boasts of a brand new account in its corporate name. The proposed repealed constitution of the movement from the national body also came up for deliberations. The draft was read to the members and relevant observations from members were noted by the leadership of the branch for onward submission at the general congress meeting of the national body in Jing on the 8th November, 2020 where the constitution is to be adopted.
Meanwhile, the members deliberated on a suggestion raised by a member for the organisation of a get together tagged “manshak”. This, according to the suggestion would help to create awareness on the activities of the branch to other members that the publicity of today’s meeting could not reach. The members accordingly agreed to hold the “manshak get together” before this year runs out. A 5-man committee was then immediately inaugurated for that purpose. In an acceptance speech the chairman of the “manshak get together” committee, Comrade Dalu, K. Moses (MC No Long Thing) appreciated the congress for finding them worthy of the task and promised that the committee shall immediately swing into action to organize a memorable occasion. The committee immediately made a commitment to donate a full dog for barbecue at the “manshak get together”.
Goodwill message came from the national president of MYM, Comrade Longgul Dakwom through his Public Relations Officer (PRO) II, Kwopnan Jwan who expressed gladness that strong branches are springing up beyond village inclinations. He noted that he was particularly happy that it shall go down in history that the springing up of branches remains one of the cardinal points his administration will be remembered for in the coming generations.
In his words, the president said “I pray for a very vibrant and active Pankshin Branch that will serve as a reference point to other branches in all ramifications.
“I challenge all the members of Pankshin Branch to make observations from the constitution in such a way that branches will be strengthened because the existence of strong branches gives the national body the necessary strength it needs to wax stronger.
“Elections shall be coming up in December this year at the national convention to be held for such purpose of electing new exco for the national body; my exco has no intention to stay in power beyond our 2-year tenure hence I am calling on the great Mupun youths with the Mupun vision to brace up to take the baton from us so as to continue to move MYM to enviable heights” the national president added.
Also in attendance were veterans who added value to the meeting with great words of counsel and encouragement. Most notable among such was the advice given to the youths to join actively in the activities, especially meetings of Mupun Cultural and Development Association (MUCDA) Pankshin Branch because the youths are the backbone of society. They noted that the youths hold the key to the continues existence of MUCDA in years to come. The veterans also advised members to shun sentiments that could divide them along lines of villages and clans.
