CONDOLENCE MESSAGE TO THE LOVING PEOPLE OF BENUE STATE, WORLD-WIDE.

On behalf of the entire Members of the Middle Belt Movement, Worldwide. We commensurate with the loving people of Benue State and the TIV Nation in particular, over the wanton killings of innocent lives and destruction of properties by the Fulani marauders that led to the death of more than 70 persons. We condone with you deeply and desire to assure you that we are in this together.

It is sad that a Government of the Federation whose primary duty is to protect lives and properties have continually paid lip service to putting proactive measures in place to prevent this inhuman acts by the terrorist herdsmen who also have in turn, taken advantage of this, to perpetuate this heinous crime against humanity.

We condemn their activities in totality and encourage the Benue people not to lose hope in God for He alone is our protector.  We commend the Executive Governor of Benue state His Excellency, Governor Samuel Ortom for passing the Anti-Grazing Reserve Bill. This Bill won’t have come at a better time than now.

We caution the Federal Government through the Minister for Agriculture that shifted their earlier plan to establish Ranches to cattle colonies. We reject the cattle colonies in totality because it is aimed at making passersby become colonist of a land they ought to temporarily occupy for their businesses. Government should rather concentrate attention on other businesses in the country, the way they are investing their energy in the cattle rearing business.

Furthermore, we implore the Federal Government as a way of proactive measures to send Military troops to all troubled areas in the Middle Belt, the way they handled the Biafra agitators’ issue. This will give the World the impression that they are indeed serious about the Fulani herdsmen invasion in people’s territories.

We admonish other troubled states like Plateau, Kogi, Kaduna, and Nassarawa states to without delay, learn from Governor Samuel Ortom by implementing the Anti-Grazing reserve Bill. This will serve as the long term solution to this incessant crisis. Ranches should be established thereafter.

Finally, we call on the people of Benue state to be proactive by being vigilant and defend themselves whichever way possible within the ambit of the law. For the security of lives and properties is the duty of all.
