RE; RYD032/2022

Calvary greetings

My attention has been drawn to the above mentioned editorial from the Mupun Youth Association, our sister association on the sad happenings of 26th/2/2022.

In as much as the events of the day are highly regrettable, our actions and reactions towards the situation equally matter in bringing a lasting solution to the sad happenings.

This piece of editorial seems to paint a picture; one that for the discerning mind may not necessarily be a call to justice for a perceived ill, but one which will rather set our communities on a collision course and I believe that is not the essence of our existence as youth community leaders.

I have watched keenly how this debacle all started and it is pleasing that the tone of silence which came into play superseded any urge to react hastily to the matters as captured and that in itself has allowed me to have a rational overview.

I will point out the following as captured by the editorial;

  • The need for subservience because of “political goodwill” by the Mupun political elite to the concerned community.
  • Seeming condonment of the heinous acts by the “community”.
  • Gross disaffection towards the Mupun elders.
  • Demand for an apology
  • A reprimand of all perpetrators
  • Ensure drastic measures are taken for safeguard
  • Mupun youth and nation being misconstrued as weak people.

While it is fitting that there should be a reprimand for all perpetrators of violence on the said day, other issues raised seem to tilt towards patronage and the belittling of a harmonious communal coexistence.

But we as a movement will not fray nerves further by yielding to threats and delving away from what the real issues are……that this was a political exercise turned sour and as such all issues related thereafter should be rightly seen as politically motivated instead of ethnically profiling a problem which we should work together to uproot in its entirety.

We must be seen as people who engender a harmonious and cordial relationship amongst us and kill any resentment that artificial boundaries will set between us. We have outlived worse….our bonds of love and affection will not be severed today.

It is our believe that together we can join heads to salvage our communities from even ourselves so that we can tow the path of peace, justice and progress. God bless us all as we work towards what will bind us together as brothers we have always been.
