SPEECH PRESENTED BY MAZI OBIKWELU NNAWETANMA ON THE OCCASION “EFFECTS OF HARD DRUGS AND SUBSTANCES ABUSE ON YOUTHS” ON 7/11/2024 AT G.S.S WUSE, F.C.T, ABUJA
Distinguished members of the high table, gentlemen of the press, great students of various secondary schools and their teachers here present, honorable ladies and gentlemen. I welcome you all to this seminar on “Effect of hard drugs and substances abuse on youth”.
It is with profound honor and gratitude for me to stand on this podium to address SS1-SS3 students of various secondary schools in G.S.S Wuse today, for honouring this invitation, I say thank you once again.
In 1990, one N.T.A anchorman Mr. Frank Olize do ask parents, do you know where your children are? That question is very very relevant today more than ever because some of our children have left the part that leads to righteousness and follow part that leads to self destruction.
We have carried out survey state by state across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja and the pathetic situation of hard-drugs and substances abuse is alarming, this is the main reason we came out to intervene by educating our children and vulnerable youths on effects of hard drugs and substances abuse. “Health is wealth, healthy youths is a healthy society”.
The theme of our message is “CHOBA EWU-OJI NA EHIHE”, meaning look for your black goat in the day time before night falls.
This is what propels Youth Volunteer Society of Nigeria to catch them young and inculcate in them the effects of hard-drugs and substances abuse. We brought in professionals in field of sensitization and awareness to educate our vulnerable youths because your life matters to your parents, your community, Nigeria and world at large,
May I borrow words of Late Gen. Sani Abacha 1997 Speech;
“Fellow Nigerians, the way forward, every individual has a role to play in the task of nation-building as no one else can do it for us”.
Necessity is mother of invention, and I put it to you students that I look up to you to change Nigeria, the bulk of work lies with our Engineering students to fabricate machines for farming, make our railways work, fabricate machines to work on our roads.
We use this medium to congratulate the Chairman/CEO NDLEA, Brig. General Buba M. Marwa and his staffs for working silently to make a Nigeria drug free society.
Lastly, I want to salute the courage of Queen Amina of Zaria of our modern time Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh who played a key role in curbing Ebola virus and gave her live for Nigeria. There are many Adadevohs among you here that will make Nigeria great.
We use this medium to appeal to Public Spirited Individuals, Corporate Organizations, N.G.O’s, States and Federal Government of Nigeria to assist us to take this sensitization and awareness to urban and rural areas of Nigeria. Only those who feels it knows it.
We need your support to purchase 25 plots of land at Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State to build a Rehabilitation Centre with sporting amenities. Valued at N37,500,000 which our benefactor has paid 5 million naira in advance living balance of 32 million naira. We need five (5) 4×4 operational vehicles to enhance our movement to rural area, (fairly used).
