A group of workers under the aegis of Concern Workers Forum Mangu LGA today petitioned the Local Government Council to the Plateau State House of Assembly over unpaid salaries.
In the petition titled “Petition for Non-payment of 2018 February salaries” addressed to the Speaker PLHA through the Chairman House Committee on Public Account & Petitions, the group said it became pertinent to inform the Legislative Arm about the plight of workers in Mangu LGA due to the inability of the appropriate Authority to pay its workers their outstanding 2018 February salaries.
The letter signed by the Chairman, Com. Dagwam Elisha, Secretary Com. Wungakkah Wambutda and other Members called on the House of Assembly to intervene in the matter.
The group is demanding full payment of the workers’ 2018 February salaries which was promised to be paid on or before 8th March, 2019 by the Executive Chairman, Engr. Lawrence Danat but failed to keep to his side of the agreement to the workers.
The group also called on the House Committee on Public Accounts & Petitions to get to the root of N140 million they allegedly was released for the purpose of settling workers’ salaries which they said was not utilized for the purpose.
The group also want an investigation into an alleged statement credited to the Council Boss, Hon. Lawrence Danat in which he alleged that 3 principal Officers of the Council diverted the LGC Funds including the February, 2019 salaries.
The group was received by the Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts & Petitions, Hon. Bala Fwangje, Member representing Mangu South Constituency who promised that his Committee will look into the petition and do the needful.
He appreciated the group for being civil and constructive.
Other Members of the Committee present to receive the group were Hon. Pirfa Tyem, Hon. Esther Dusu, Hon. Wallangko and the Committee Secretary, Mr. Barry.
