News available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that a clique of friends/associates who once called Jos home (in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s), met in Jos at the weekend to workout modalities of how they can restore the lost glory of the once serene and charming city.  The friends met under the auspices of a new group tagged “Make Jos Great Again“.

Members of the group included the former Chairman of the National Population Commission, Mr. Samu’ila Danko Makama, former Military Governor of Niger State, Col. Lawan Gwadabe, Former Minister of Information, Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, Arch. Shamsuna Ahmed, Alh. Ibrahim Sale Hassan, Chief Murphy Dorgu, Alhaji Kamal Arabi and many others.

Chairman of the Make Jos Great Again group Samu’ila Danko Makama opined during the group’s maiden general meeting in Jos that the city, which was once the envy of all, had witnessed numerous ethnic and religious crises which has displaced many, eroded the feeling of togetherness, and created suspicion among people. He said the once enviable city, has become almost unrecognizable and a shadow of its old self.

Makama said the group would contribute to the restoration of the lost glory of Jos through private efforts, commencing with human development which will be non-ethnic, non-partisan, non-political and non-religious.

“With much vigour, we may, sooner than later, float a foundation that will ameliorate the plight of widows, orphans, people with disability and the internally displaced. We shall work assiduously to achieve this goal,” he said.

Also speaking, Col. Lawan Gwadabe (Rtd) said, “Coming together to make Jos great again begins with the pooling together of like-minded persons from all our diverse religious and ethnic divides to chart a new course of re-tracing our steps, re-assessing, re-integrating and proffering suggestions that would go a long way to making our town great again.”
