The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Folusho Oyinlola, has paid a solemn tribute to fallen Nigerian Army personnel who lost their lives in service to the nation. The tribute was made during a courtesy visit by the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Army Widows Association (NAWA) at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, on Wednesday, 14 May 2025.
In a moving address, Major General Oyinlola expressed profound appreciation for the ultimate sacrifices made by the departed officers and soldiers. He emphasized that their legacy endures through the security and stability they helped preserve.
“These heroes paid the ultimate price for love of our country, and it is our duty to ensure their sacrifice is not in vain,” he said, acknowledging the deep emotional impact on the families left behind.
The chairperson of NAWA Plateau State Chapter, Mrs. Esther Odigie, welcomed the GOC and outlined the association’s objectives, including the need for employment opportunities for widows within the cantonment. She also extended an invitation to Major General Oyinlola to attend the forthcoming International Widows Day celebration scheduled for late June.
“The contributions of our deceased husbands to the nation should not be forgotten,” she remarked. “We are here to seek assistance so that widows and their children can have a better future. Inclusion in the Army’s welfare schemes would significantly help our families,” she added.
In response, the GOC lauded the courage and resilience of the widows and assured them of the Division’s unwavering support.
“Caring for our fallen heroes’ loved ones is both a moral duty and an institutional obligation. We must, therefore, do all within our power to ensure no widow is left behind,” he affirmed.
Major General Oyinlola noted the concerns raised by the association and pledged continued support. As a gesture of goodwill, he also donated food items to the association, underscoring his commitment to the welfare of fallen.
