The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army who also doubles as the Commander of the Special Task Force codenamed Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali has disclosed that the Nigerian Army has placed high premium on the training of its personnel Officers to enable them confront and overcome insecurity bedeviling the Nation.
“As you are aware, the level of insecurity in the Country requires consistent training of our personnel to enable us to secure the lives and property of law-abiding citizens. It is worthy to note that this competition was organized with the aim of training subaltern Officers for quick response to emerging threats in carrying out our roles in a joint environment with our sister services and other security agencies.
He urged Participants to put into effective use the lessons learnt from the 3 Division Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition.
The top Army Officer made these known at the closing ceremony of the competition between four (4) formations comprising of 3 Division Garrison Jos, 6 Brigade Jalingo, 33 Brigade Bauchi and 23 Yola which held at the Physical Training Group Headquarters 3 Division Nigerian Army Jos, Plateau State.
He commended the level of interest and professionalism put in by all the participants from the various formation in all areas competed for such as tug of war, map reading, weapon handling as well as endurance run/obstacle crossing and expressed satisfaction with the general performance of all the participating Brigades.
He said he look forward to seeing the competition enhancing the spirit of sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork needed in the accomplishment of missions and tasks.
“I will want you to imbibe these cherished traditions in your courses, operations and future deployments.
Maj. Gen. Ali lauded the Plateau State government for providing the Nigerian Army the necessary support to discharge its constitutional roles and assured that the Nigerian Army in conjunction with other security and collaborating agencies will do their best in in ensuring peace is restored in Plateau State. This he said is key as they continue to engage in the various operations in their respective Joint Operation Areas to completely get rid of all acts of criminalities perpetrated in Nigeria.
3 Division Garrison Jos emerged the overall winner of the competition followed by 6 Brigade Jalingo, 23 Brigade Yola and 33 Brigade Bauchi.
The event was well attended by Traditional Rulers, Representative of the Executive Governor of Plateau State Maj. Gen. Augustine Agundu (Rtd) the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Army Officers from the Formations/3 Division and Heads of other security organizations.
Medals and other prizes were given to the deserving Formations/Participants of the Competition.
