The Nigerian Military has assured the inhabitants of Sanga Local Government Area Kaduna State and its environs of its readiness and commitment towards achieving a peaceful and successful farming season and beyond.
The Commander Operation Safe and General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army Jos Plateau State, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar dropped these disclosures during a peace Summit organized by the Forward Operation Base (FOB) Commander Sanga, Major Mohammed Galadima with the theme “peaceful coexistence towards a successful farming season” which held on Saturday 18th May, 2024 at the Hon. DM Bello Multi-purpose Hall Sanga Local Government Secretariat, Gwantu.
The Army top Officer in his keynote address commended the FOB Commander for the initiative saying it is apt and timely as the raining and farming season gradually set in. He said the Summit geared towards a successful farming season is of utmost importance as it will ensure safety and prosperity in the various communities in Sanga Local Government Area and environs.
He said “As the Commander Operation Safe Haven I understand the challenges faced during the farming season including farm destructions and attacks on livestock with reprisal attack which sometimes degenerate into vicious cycle of attacks”
He further hinted that the seminar was organized to address these challenges toward ensuring a hitch free farming season in 2024.
He said since agriculture play a significant role in the development of the Nation, it is important for the Security Agencies to create an enabling environment for farming and herding activities to be done without fear and conflict.
He urged the Participants to look critically at issues that often lead to the disruption of farming activities in their respective communities which he said include underage herders, night grazing, poisoning of livestock, inciting and inflammatory comments which sparks conflict.
He highlighted some of the robust non-kinetic strategies adopted by Operation Safe Haven towards fostering peaceful coexistence in the Joint Operations Area (JOA).
Earlier in his address, the Forward Operation Base Commander, Major Mohammed Galadima hinted that the seminar is a non-kinetic approach to conflict resolution.
He said without peace there will be no meaningful growth and development.
He lauded the uncommon leadership being demonstrated by the Commander OPSH in addressing the security challenges in the Joint Operations Area.
There was paper presentations by resource Persons on peaceful coexistence towards a successful farming season as well as an interactive session.
The Stakeholders who spoke lauded the Forward Operation Base Commander for the initiative and all agreed that insecurity and violence has adversely hindered them from harnessing the rich agricultural potentials of the area. They also promised to give the security agencies the needed support and cooperation to overcome the insecurity confronting the Area.
Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar commissioned a Military Outpost and motorcycles for effective operations of the military personnel along Sanga to Akwanga to tackle the insecurity confronting the people in that area especially the terrible terrain. He lauded the good people of the Area for their support to the Military in its efforts to protect lives and property of the Citizens.
