Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has directed Army Personnel to uphold their primary responsibility of safeguarding the Nation’s territorial integrity and citizens’ lives against external aggression and internal criminal elements. He emphasized that fulfilling their Constitutional obligations is crucial for achieving peace and ensuring the Nation’s survival. While addressing Army Personnel of the 3-Armoured Division Nigerian Army Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, Plateau State, the Army Chief stressed the importance of proactive, focused, and professional efforts in combating the Nation’s insecurity. He noted that citizens have high expectations from the Military. According to him, peace and a conducive environment are essential for meaningful development, progress, and economic prosperity.

He confirmed that the Army has recognized the challenges faced by its personnel and will take steps to address them. He underscored the Army’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel, aligning with the vision of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Senator Bola Tinubu, who is focused on maintaining a well-trained and combat-ready Military that receives comprehensive support to fulfill its core responsibilities.
He spotlighted the Army’s Housing Scheme, aimed at providing Army Personnel with affordable housing options. He observed that, having conducted a tour of the Military formation, he is conversant with the areas of need and is prepared to deploy effective solutions to address the challenges, particularly the schools and personnel quarters that are in a state of disrepair.
He intimated that he has solicited action plans to ensure that schools in dilapidated states receive urgent attention, thereby enabling pupils and students to acquire quality education in a conducive atmosphere that fosters learning.
He exhorted the personnel to intensify their efforts in safeguarding the nation and ensuring the protection of civilians as they pursue their lawful endeavors. He also commended their dedication, resilience, high sense of discipline, and professionalism, urging them to do more in protecting the territorial integrity of the nation as well as the lives and property of the citizenry.
He assured them that the Nigerian Army will provide the necessary support required for their success.
He urged citizens to provide the military with the necessary cooperation and support to succeed in its efforts to eliminate terrorists and other criminal elements from the nation. He stated that overcoming security challenges necessitates the collective efforts of all citizens.
The visit also featured the commissioning of the newly constructed and well-furnished Headquarters 23 Support Engineer Regiment, renovated 30 Family Corporal and below Quarters, and the renovated Block D 116 MKC, all aimed at providing befitting accommodation for army personnel.
The Army Chief was taken on a tour of the barracks for an on-the-spot assessment of facilities by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, and other senior officers of the division and special task force.
