The traditional ruler of Shendam Local Government area, ‘Long Goemai’, Miskoom Shaldas II, has described the election of one of his subjects, (Barr. Simon Lalong as Governor-elect) as an act of God.

The monarch made the statement at the weekend, during a congratulatory visit undertaken by the Goemai nation to Simon Lalong. He said, “power comes from God and he gives it to whoever he wills, we consider the election of this new Government as an act of the almighty God”.

The monarch was accompanied on the visit by the “Long Dorok”, Miskoom David Isa Dongban, other traditional rulers, Chairman of Shendam Local Government area including prominent Goemai sons and daughters like Fidelis Tapgun, Yahaya Kwande, Abbas Umaru, John Alkali, Miss Josephine Tapgun, and  Prof. Longmas Wapmuk, amongst others.

Receiving them, the Governor-elect, expressed appreciation to the Goemai nation for taking the time to come and felicitate with him, he assured them that his administration shall learn from the mistakes of the past, in order not to repeat them.

He assured the visitors that going forward, his development plans will be based on equity, justice and fair play.

He thanked the Goemai nation for standing solidly behind him during the election, adding that their support and those of the people of the state ensured his success at the polls.

In the same vein, President of one of the Goemai cultural groups, Miskoom Thomas Shialsuk, described the election of Lalong as the manifestation of the resolute position of the people, having taken their destiny in their hands.

He said given the high expectations of the people in the face of the many daunting problems, his organisation was confident that the challenges can be surmounted because of the experience of Lalong in both the private and public services.

He thanked the people of the state for deeming the Governor–elect worthy of being voted into the exalted position and prayed that God will grant him and his team the strength, zeal and determination to turn the fortune of the state around.
