LGA elections: Lalong wants citizens to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong on Monday said he wants citizens to freely exercise their franchise at the 10th October, 2018 local government council polls in the state.
The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission,PLASIEC is to hold elections in 13 local governments out of the 17 in the state following security clearance to that effect.
Those exempted due to security threat are Jos South, Jos North, Barakin Ladi and Riyom Local government areas.
Governor Lalong in a message to citizens of the state said his administration has done much to create the enabling environment for democracy to thrive.
In the message signed by state Information and Communication Commissioner Yakubu Datti,Lalong said as a Democrat and beneficiary of democracy, citizens should freely make their choice.
He however said this should be done under a peaceful atmosphere.
The governor said the state is on a trajectory of growth and development and therefore want citizens to vote in furtherance of that goal.
Governor Lalong who expressed satisfaction with security arrangements for the polls ask those who do not have anything to do with the election to stay clear of the state.
He commended the state judiciary for setting up the state local government election tribunal and that of appeal to address any petition that may arise from the polls.
The governor asks any contestant who may feel dissatisfied with the outcome of the polls to seek redress at the tribunals rather than resort to self help.
Datti said Governor Lalong categorically want citizens to disregard any report concerning the polls on social media and rather wait for information from official sources to avoid being misled.
