Let experience and competence guide you in choice of new commissioners, Plateau, elders tell Lalong

Elders of Plateau State  have asked Lalong not to repeat the mistake he made in choosing members of the dissolved executive council. 

They urged him to rather allow competence, credibility and experience be the guiding spirit in the choice of new members of his emerging cabinet who would the last lap of his first tenure. 

The elders in a statement in made available to newsmen in Jos on Friday, commended the governor for sacking the former commissioners, describing some of them as lackluster and incompetent. 

The statement, which was signed by the President Ayuba Shown and Secretary,  Reverse Bitrus Naiwaazi Nawaaizi, said,  “The action of the governor in dissolving the former commissioners did not come to us as a surprise because it is long overdue.

“What we are asking Lalong now is not to repeat the same mistake he did in choosing them, but he should allow  competence, credibility,  experience guide him this time around. 

The statement added,  “He should also choose those who would give him electoral value and with  large grassroots support.”

The elders warned Lalong that days of compensation of party men is over, stressing that “Now is the time to choose technocrats and professionals to do the job order for him to achieve his vision and mission for the state. 

They urged the Governor to set up standards that would assist him to do a better selection.

“We are ready to assist him to set up a think tank that will assemble men and women of goodwill for him, who would drive his visions and  aspirations for the state.

While reminding Lalong that the sack should not be wholesale, the elders , said that some of  sacked Commissioners might not have performed badly considering some circumstances and urged the governor to reconsider  them.

They also want Lalong to extend the same hammer to some of his advisers and bring on board competent and hard working people with the zeal to perform
