Lalong Bombs Opposition Over Criticism of Gashish Visit
By Golok Nanmwa ,Jos
Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong has lambasted members of the opposition party over criticism of his Gashish visit .
Lalong in a statement signed by ,Mark Longyen the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity made available to newsmen in Jos reads that”Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, condemning the Governor’s visit to Gashish District and environs in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.” The opposition party’s criticism of the Governor’s visit is, to say the least, very unfortunate, uncharitable, mischievous, nauseating and smacks of pure political shenanigans aimed solely at scoring cheap political points.
It is sad and sickening and, indeed, the height of insensitivity and political chicanery that the opposition will give political coloration to a visit that was aimed at staving off the spade of attacks and ameliorating the sufferings of the IDPs by returning them to their ancestral homes.
Notably, unlike what obtained during the immediate past administration, where such visits were a rarity, Governor Lalong has been visiting areas and assisting victims of crises even in hospitals, in addition to issuing statements condemning the savage acts of the attackers and commiserating with victims.
It is also noteworthy that, though it is practically impossible to visit virtually everywhere that an attack occurs, it is on record that the Governor promptly paid visits for on-the-spot assessment of damages to lives and property in parts of Bassa, Barkin Ladi,Jos North, Jos South, among others during recent skirmishes.
For the avoidance of doubt, the visit to Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government was mainly to inspect the site for the establishment of the new Police Mobile Squadron recently approved for the area by the Federal Government on the request of the Governor. This was also with a view to forestalling or stemming the tide of attacks on communities there, as well as returning the IDPs to their ancestral abodes.
Government is not oblivious of the fact that the opposition is there to oppose her and not to sing her praises. But instead of them to engage in constructive criticism and be churning out laudable programs that can sell their party and candidate, they have resorted to gutter politics that will not garner votes or support for their party.
The opposition may continue to wantonly oppose, criticize, condemn and engage in pull-him-down politics, but these intrigues will not dissuade Governor Lalong, who remains resolutely focused on doing his best for the people who are the ultimate judges and beneficiaries his benevolent deeds. However, ahead the 2019 general elections, opposition political parties are admonished to eschew the politics of bitterness and join hands with the Governor to build the Plateau State of our dream.
