The Member Representing Jos South/ Jos East at the National Assembly, Hon. Dachung Bagos has reiterated the fact that it’s the lack of justice in the Nigerian system that has emboldened miscreants to continually perpetrate heinous crimes against humanity in Plateau state.
While speaking on Channels TV Sunrise Tuesday, 25th May 2021, the Member who was visibly concerned about renewed attacks on the Plateau said there was never a time since 2001 when the perpetrators of these crimes were brought to book.
This he says has continued to derail the peace process on the Plateau.
He said “Since 2001 tlll date, you cannot hand pick one person who has been convicted or jailed today as a result of killings on the Plateau or in the Middle Belt (of Nigeria)….once there is no justice and enforcement, then definitely, the perpetrators will continue”.
In the wake of the death of 16 persons in Dong, Jos North LGA and Kwi, Riyom Areas respectively, growing tension about the plight of security has increased in the last two days.
Bagos called on Plateau citizens to remain vigilant and resolute in securing their communities within the ambit of the law and not to hesitate to report suspicious elements to the security agents.
He stressed that government must be seen to be proactive in discharging their primary mandate; which is to secure the lives and properties of its citizens. A situation the federal and Plateau State governments respectively, have continually failed in discharging that all important responsibility.
