Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and candidate of Plateau North Senatorial District, Hon. Rufus Bature said he will work assiduously for the prosperity of the people of Plateau who were devastated as a result of crises that rocked some communities in the state if elected Senator in 2019.
He said his primary concern is to rehabilitate the people, particularly women and children who were displaced in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Bassa Local Government Area and resettle them to their ancestral villages.
Hon. Bature, who is the former Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing in Jos.
He said the Lalong APC Government in Plateau is concern about the plight of the people and is working tirelessly for the return of the people to their communities.
“I am concerned about the condition of my people in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Bassa Local Government Areas who were attacked and displaced from their ancestral land.
“Federal Government has been working round the clock with Governor Simon Lalong to address the social need of the people and make sure that they are secure. The Governor has gone to Gashish where the crisis was serious to inspect a site that the Police Mobil Squadron will be sited for the people to return to their homes.
Hon. Bature condemned the action of some people who have politicised the killings and taken advantage of to gain cheap political popularity.
He called on all citizens of the state to stand up against all form of criminality, Armed robbery, cattle rustling and encourage peaceful co-existence for the prosperity of the people.
He said that Government should make adequate arrangement for people in the IDPs who might not be return to their ancentral home before the 2019 general election due to massive destruction to cast their votes wherever they are.
“I am aware that Government is making arrangement with INEC to ensure that all eligible voters at the IDPs camps in Plateau to cast their votes. Though December 24 deadline has been given for the return of people who abandoned their villages for fear of being kill, we will not accept a situation where you have your PVC and opportunity is not given to you to vote.”
Hon. Bature lamented that some people have wrong perception about Governor Simon Lalong, saying the Governor believes in the unity and prosperity of the people of Plateau state.
He dismissed the insinuation that Lalong’s Government has not treated the Berom who are worst hit by the crisis fairly and said:”There is no tribe on the Plateau that has the number of appointment in Lalong administration like us the Berom. If it we’re because of the votes we gave him in 2015, I wouldn’t have been appointed as his Secretary to the State Government before I resigned.”
