Nigeria’s Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has changed his mind over his earlier decision to quit the job. He stated that he had to drop the idea after meeting with the Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi and will remain in his role as coach.

The coach stated “My attention has been drawn to reports in the media that I have resigned my appointment as the head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria,” he said in a statement.

“While I have had cause to express my displeasure over some issues that happened in the course of our participation in the Afcon 2013, which my team won by the grace of God, especially concerning my relationship with the Nigerian Football Federation, I have since had opportunity to discuss the various issues with all concerned.

“I am therefore pleased to say that I have reconsidered my position and have decided to continue with my job. I want to thank the Honourable minister of sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, for his swift and kind intervention.”

ViewPointNigeria had earlier reported the resignation of Keshi and reasons attributed to it. His change of mind will come as a relief to most Nigerians who now see the Coach as a hero after winning the trophy as a captain in 1994 and now as a coach. Most Nigerians believed the Government will intervene and convince the coach to stay after hearing the news of his resignation. The team is expected to be hosted tonight in Abuja by President Goodluck Jonathan.
