In a ceremony held today, the Executive Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council (LGC), Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, was presented with an award of excellence and a letter of commendation by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Plateau State at the Secretariat. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of Hon. Dung’s unwavering commitment to youth development and his recent contributions to the NYSC in the region.
The presentation was led by the Plateau State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, who also serves as the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Council in the state and the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Yavala Jonathan. Both officials expressed their gratitude to Hon. Dung for his dedication to improving the welfare and development of youths in Jos South LGA.
The award specifically highlights Hon. Dung’s recent gesture of officially handing over a newly remodeled NYSC Lodge in Kuru Community. The lodge, which has been upgraded to provide better accommodation and facilities for corps members, is expected to significantly enhance their living conditions and overall experience during their service year.
In his remarks, Hon. Ashoms praised Hon. Dung for his proactive leadership and commitment to empowering young people.
He said this gesture by Hon. Dung is a testament to his leadership and his understanding of the importance of the NYSC in nation-building.

Mr. Yavala Jonathan, the NYSC State Coordinator, also thanked Hon. Dung for his support, noting that the newly remodeled lodge would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges faced by corps members in the area.
In his response, Hon. Silas Patrick Dung expressed his gratitude for the recognition, thanking the NYSC for their thoughtfulness and for finding him and his administration worthy of such an honor. He reiterated his commitment to youth development, describing it as a cornerstone of his leadership and a key part of his campaign promises, which are already yielding tangible results.
He expressed a commitment to doing more and ensuring that the partnership with the NYSC continues to grow, particularly in areas that will help absorb and support corps members.
He thanked the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Bar. Caleb Mutfwang, for his visionary leadership and for planning a mass transit route in that axis to further ease transportation challenges for corps members.
He also announced plans for an expansion of the newly remodeled NYSC Lodge to accommodate even more corps members.
Hon. Dung further admonished corps members to embrace the spirit of service and give back to the communities where they are posted.
