The Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of Jos North LGC Hon. Samuel Dala Umaru, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to bettering the lots of Ex-servicemen who have sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation’s territorial integrity.
The chairman stated this during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration and Emblem Appeal of the LGA held at the Plateau Hotel Junction kashim Ibrahim way Jos.
Samuel Umaru extolled the virtues of the Ex-servicemen who contributed immensely in the Peace and security of the Nation and beyond.
He noted that as a result of their engagements in several Peace keeping operations, many lost their lives, leaving behind Widows, orphans at the mercy of God , while others suffer other physical disabilities and trauma.
While donating the Sum of 500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira,) to the legionaries Of Jo North, the chairman called on spirited individuals to come to the aid of the families of the Fallen Heroes as well as the Ex-servicemen and their families, to enable them have meaningful lives.
Samuel Umaru said his administration will continue to rely on the wealth of experiences of the Ex-servicemen, in partnership with the Serving Security Personnel, inorder to combat insecurity and acts of criminality in Jos North LGA and the entire state.
The council boss added that one of the cardinal philosophy of the present administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang is improving Peace Unity and Security of the people, and said the administration in Jos North under his Leadership, is keying into that ,and will consolidate, to protect the people and engender Peace and Unity amongst the diverse people of the LGA.
He called on Traditional and Religious Leaders in the area to continue to mobilize their subjects for needed development and Peace to be achieved adding that people should shun divisive tendencies and for Youths to shun social Vices.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Chairman of the Nigeria Legion of Jos North LGA chapter, Major Garba Itok ( Rtd), expressed appreciation to the council chairman Samuel Umaru for creating the enabling environment for the Celebration to hold in Jos North for the First Time in History after decades of absence, and praised the chairman for his commitment to improving their welfare.
Major Garba Itok described the chairman as God sent and assured of their commitment to support the present administration in all spheres of development.
In a remark, The Ujah Anaguta, Johnson Jauro Magaji, represented by the District head of Nabor, Bala Haruna, harped on the need for Government and other well to do individuals to. attach prominence to welfare of the Armed Forces,Ex-servicemen and families of the Fallen heroes in view of their sacrifices to the Nation.
Speaking on behalf of Security heads of Jos North LGA, Deputy Director State Security Service and officer in charge S. S S .Jos North, R. S . Garba, assured of their readiness to work assiduously to providing needed security to the populace and commended the council chairman for his proactiveness in handling security issues and for needed synergy with the security outfits.
Contributing, PDP chairman of Jos North LGA, Aminu Abdullahi, commended the ex-servicemen and armed forces for their services to the Nation and urged them not to relent as the Present Government will support them to the latter
The Director of Personnel Management of the LG,. Emmanuel Mwolpun, pointed out that the council will sustain the celebrations in view of the important roles played by the ex-servicemen and thanked all for their presence
Highpoints of the Colourful event which was witnessed by large number of dignitaries and members of the public, featured Laying of Wreaths in Honour of the Fallen heroes as well as inspection of guard of Honour mounted by the Nigeria Legion, carried out by the legion corp of commissioneers .
Special prayers were offered by the CAN and JNI for the Fallen heroes and ex-servicemen.
