The Special Assistant to Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state, Mr Clinton Garuba has stated that the recently concluded presidential and national assembly’s election in Plateau was marred by underage voting in Jos North Local Government Area of the State.

Garuba said that the Garba Daho ward in the LGA had a lot of underage voters who shouldn’t be anywhere close to polling units nor be in possession of the Permanent Voters Card (PVCs). He added that there were other irregularities like over voting.

He said that the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warrants total cancellations when such irregularities occur but was surprised that INEC went ahead to count and collate the results which was in contravention of the election guidelines.

Garuba bemoaned the deliberate disenfranchisement of significant number of eligible voters in the Northern senatorial zone of the state. He said the people registered but were denied the opportunity despite the fact that it was no fault of theirs.

The Governor’s aid called on people of the state to come out en-mass and show support to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the Gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections in the April 11th elections. He said people should not be discouraged by the lapses encountered in the Saturday election.
