Hon. Abbey Joseph Aku, the immediate past Plateau State Commissioner of Commerce and Industries has emerged the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Jos North/Bassa Federal House of Representatives Bye-election slated for Saturday 26th February, 2022 after a rerun of the Primary Election.
Hon. Abbey Aku and Rep. Suleiman Kwande earlier had a tie as each pulled 344 Votes during the primary election which held at Lamonde Hotel Jos on Tuesday 1st February, 2022.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Hon. Habu Ajiya declared the election which was monitored by the electoral umpire, INEC inconclusive on account of the tie.
The rerun was later scheduled for Friday 4th February, 2022 at Jebbu Bassa, the Headquarters of Bassa Local Government Area between Hon. Abbey Aku and Hon. Suleiman Kwande.
In the rerun, Hon. Abbey Aku secured 804 Votes to defeat his opponent, Hon. Suleiman Kwande who pulled 74 Votes while 5 Votes were declares invalid of the 888 accredited delegates for the election.
Hon. Habu Ajiya declared Hon. Abbey Aku as the Winner having scored the highest valid votes.
Hon. Abbey will be slugging it out with the PDP Candidate, Hon. Musa Agah who is the current Member representing Rukuba/Irigwe Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly who is also from Bassa LGA as Hon. Abbey.
Hon. Joseph Abbey Aku said his intention to contest the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency Seat which became vacant following the demise of Late Hon. Haruna Maitala who died in April, 2021 in a fatal car accident is to attract developmental projects to the Federal Constituency, collaborate with Plateau State Peace building Agency and other Peace Building Organizations to Marshal best ways to achieve sustainable peace and security in the Communities bedevilled by violent crisis.
He hinted that having served as Senior Legislative Aide at the National Assembly, he has garnered experience, skills and competence needed to sponsor bills that will impact the citizens and the society significantly as well as have regular consultations with the Constituents to know their needs and ensure they are met.
He disclosed that he is in the contest to provide credible and exceptional representation to the people.
