Senator Jonah Jang, yesterday Thursday 14th January at 10:00am honoured an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Jonah Jang arrived at the head quarters of EFCC at approximately 9:50 am. He was spotted wearing a flowing attire and was in the company of several aides and assistants.

Jonah Jang was invited by the anti-graft commission by a letter passed through the office of the senate president. The invitation was said to be at the instance of several petitions filed by principals of the Plateau state government about sundry allegations of financial affairs said to have been undertaken during his time as Governor of the state.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the visit, his Senior Legislative aide, Olivia Dazyem (Esq), confirmed that Senator Jang honoured the invitation and that the usual preliminary discussions with officials of the agency took place, but did not provide further information about the exact nature of the discussions. She however confirmed that after the brief meeting, the senator left the parley in high spirits.

ViewPointNigeria’s investigations reveals that some of the salient points raised in the petition to the EFCC border around SURE-P funds, Small and Medium Enterprise funds disbursed by the federal government and allegations of deductions/contributions to Local Government funds.

With this in minds, ViewPointNigeria contacted a key principal of the past administration and put these allegations to him. He vehemently denied and dismissed any allegations that funds were mis-used or mis-appropriated. He maintained that all funds disbursed to the state government by the federal government were judiciously used and the records are available which back their claims.

The official pointed to various capital and sundry projects executed by the Jang administration as evidence and pointed to the handover notes left behind as reference. He said “in times when political power moves from party A to B, issues such as these are common place – this is simply political witch-hunt, where certain people are trying to get their pounds of flesh as opposed to being based on anything meaningful”. We are very confident that this shall pass.

Speaking further, he said “These issues are being put forward by the current leadership to distract the citizenry from asking the government difficult questions about – good governance, and security, development. But Plateau people are smarter than that – they will definitely demand their rights from the current leadership”.

It would be recalled, that these issues have been recurring decimals in discussions in the Plateau-sphere in the twilight of the past administration, with accusation and counter accusations traded between the citizenry and government officials, but facts about the precise use or mis-use of the funds are still being established.
