       Mr. Jang, who was first elected governor in 2007, said this on Friday evening in Jos, in a broadcast, to residents of the state

“We have seen many successes and achievements that we should be proud of,” the governor said.

       Among Mr. Jang’s successes in office is his improvement of the agriculture sector, the major sustenance of Plateau’s economy. The sector received a boost with the introduction of mechanized farming of Irish potatoes, a major produce associated with the state.

The administration also began the construction of a lot of roads although about 60 per cent are yet to be completed. Mr. Jang’s critics, however, accuse him of neglecting human development, health, and education in the state.

       His administration placed an embargo on employment to the state civil service which has left thousands of graduates from the state unemployed.

Also,the states civil servants are owed five months salary arrears, while workers in the five higher institutions owned by the state are currently on strike (something that has become perennial) for non-payment of their entitlements.

       Another sector that has suffered total neglect are state-owned industries which have all crumbled and workers displaced. In recognising some of the criticisms filed at him, Mr. Jang said, “there are those who may not agree with every decision or policy, under my administration as governor, but we must remember that as we count our blessings and modest achievements, government alone cannot solve all problems.”

He said he would continue to do his best to govern the state until he leaves office as governor on May 29. Mr. Jang also commented on the decision of his major opponent in the senatorial election to challenge the result in court.

       Eunice Sambo, who was the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the election has alleged manipulation of the final results in favour of the governor and announced her decision to approach the election tribunals.

“We must not allow the situation degenerate to a point of pitching religion against religion, prejudice against prejudice; communities against each other,” the governor said, while preaching reconciliation.
