Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos Professor Yohana Daniel Izam has says the University has witnessed tremendous academic and infrastructural growth since the advent of the Lalong administration which has demonstrated commitment in repositioning the University for Academic Excellence.

Professor Izam disclosed this when he led other management staff of the University on a familiarization visit to the Management Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Yakubu Simon Tamai in his office.

According to him, apart from academic and infrastructural development witnessed as a result of the supportive role of the administration, the University also held its first and second combined convocation and matriculated one thousand five hundred newly admitted students into the seventeen (17) programmes run by the University.

Izam appealed to the Management Committee Chairman to erect a police outpost near the University to ensure prompt response to security challenges within and around the campus.

The Vice Chancellor said the University is doing extremely well in meeting up its core mandate which is to supply trained manpower to meet the demand for skilled labour in both public and private sectors and urged the Council to take advantage of the presence of the University and send staff of the Local Government for training, retraining, workshops and academic programmes in order to improve their skills and provide expertise in the running of the council’s affairs.

He reminded the Council Chairman of the promise made by one of his predecessors to build a clinic for the University but said  this was not achieved due to certain reasons and called on the Local Government to consider any form of assistance it can render to the University.

Responding, the Management Committee Chairman, Hon. Tamai assured the University of the Council’s preparedness to assist it on an area decided by the Management of the Council.

He stressed that as the chief security officer of Bokkos Local Government Area, he will do everything possible to ensure the safety of students, staff and property of the University as well as the lives of any individual residing within Bokkos LGA.

The Chairman disclosed that providing security is one of the items on the five pillar policy of Lalong administration and that he promised the Governor that the security challenges in Bokkos will be tackled with all seriousness stressing that since he assumed office as Chairman of Bokkos LGA, the locality has not witnessed any serious security challenges.

He expressed optimism that the Vice Chancellor has the intellectual capacity to take the University to higher heights and appealed to him to consider qualified indigenes of Bokkos Local Government in terms of employment and admission being the host community.
