ITF trains over 100,000 Nigerians in 18 months

Industrial Training Fund (ITF) on Thursday  said it had trained about 100,000 Nigerians in the last 18 months who have today either been gainfully employed or are successful entrepreneurs.

 ITF Director General, Sir. Joseph Ari said during the Fund’s 2017 annual performance review meeting in Jos that the ITF achieved this through some of its programmes such as the National Industrial Skills Development Programme, Passion to Profession, Training on Wheels Using Mobile Training Units, the Women Skills Empowerment Programme (WOSEP), the Technical Skills Development Project (TSDP) as well as the Vulnerable and Indigent Youth Empowerment Programme (VIYEP) among others.

Ari explained that the training of over 100,000 was a remarkable achievement when weighed against the currents of the funds operational environment within the time frame recorded. “As much as efforts are laudable when placed side by side with the soaring unemployment figures and other detriments, it behoves of us to do more to be true to our declaration,” he said.

He described the annual review as a serious event that has had fundamental impact on the way the fund approaches its business as a corporate entity adding that the 2017 review  with the theme: ‘ITF Vision: The Journey so Far’ will provide for “an opportunity to thoroughly interrogate our performance as an Institution.”
