Ike Odoeme Foundation Raises School Safety Awareness in Jos, Plateau State

School Owners, Government and critical Stakeholders involved in building have been admonished to carry out building of Schools and other structures with the safety of School Children and the People as their topmost priority.
This call was made by the Project Officer of Ike Odoeme Foundation, Suzie Agas during a Safety Awareness Campaign in Jos, the Plateau State Capital on Wednesday 24th July, 2024.
She echoed the need for the highest standard of safety for School Children in all Schools in order for them to achieve their full potentials at appreciable levels and not make them vulnerable to disasters.


She hinted that the charge became imperative considering the collapse of buildings across the Nation especially the most recent Saints Academy School Building Jos, Plateau State which led to the demise of over 20 Students who were writing their Examinations with over a score seriously injured.
Suzie lamented the abysmal attention accorded the safety and security of School Pupils and Students which has continuously exposed them to dangers and other insecurity.

She hinted that her Team were in the Hospital on Monday 22nd July, 2024 to empathize and support the victims of the Saints Academy Jos School Building Collapse who were critically injured and receiving medical attention.

She said the awareness campaign is their own way of participation in the governance process and to drive home the need for more safety in Schools to protect the Children therein.
According to her, every child deserve a safe to learn and grow while urging the citizens to ensure that integrity tests are conducted on school buildings, report unsafe practices in and around Schools and prioritise safety for School Children all the time.

Mrs Sarah Dalut the Chairman Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) Plateau State also reiterated the need for the various agencies involved in regulating buildings to ensure that standard is not compromised as doing so is detrimental. She called on the Citizens to speak out whenever they notice issues that need attention.

Engineer Salome Pam in her remarks decried how buildings are done without adhering to regulations and standards.
She admonished the Citizens to always stick to building regulations. She said doing so will enhance the integrity of buildings and safety of lives and property which are usually lost in avoidable circumstances.
She urged Professionals involved in constructions and the regulatory bodies to ensure the right things are done without compromise.

Highlight of the Awareness Campaign was a walk from Old Airport Roundabout to Secretariat Junction Flyover Yakubu Gowon Way Jos, Plateau State.
