Hon. Timothy Dantong Holds COVID-19 Community Engagement Meeting With Riyom LG Critical Stakeholders

In order to create the necessary awareness and sensitization about COVID-19 and the preventive measures as Schools are set to reopen for full academic activities after over 6 Months of closure on account of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Member representing Riyom Constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly and House Committee Chairman on Housing & Urban Development, Hon. Timothy Dantong today had a parley with critical stakeholders from Riyom LGA consisting of Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, the political Class, Associations, Unions, Heads of government establishments in the area and representatives from the 17 Wards in the Constituency to create awareness on the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the World.

In his remarks, Hon. Dantong disclosed that COVID-19 is real and urged the people to take all the health protocols advised by Health professional seriously and strictly adhere to them. He underscored the need for strategic community sensitization.
He said the parley was his responsibility as the Representative of the people and aimed at ensuring that the people are given proper information on the dreaded disease. He charged the people to maintain good personal and respiratory hygiene at all times to prevent themselves against the virus as well as present themselves for test saying the disease is not a death sentence.
He said Community awareness by Leaders is more acceptable by the people considering the closeness of the Leaders to the people.

The Legislator also urged the people to learn to live in peace and ensure all forms of criminality are reported to the appropriate authorities for necessary sanctions. He said no development can be achieved in a hostile environment.
He posited that as the Representative of the people, he will remain the voice and pursue things that will engender unity, peace and development in the Constituency.

There was presentation on COVID-19 Awareness by the Director of Primary Healthcare.

The Acting Education Secretary Riyom Local Education Authority, Mrs. Sarah G. Dung and her counterpart the Area Director of Education Riyom LGA, Mr. Peter Gyang Gokyo gave updates on their preparedness for Schools reopening. They called for necessary supports from parents and community Leaders.

There were goodwill messages from the Management Committee Chairman Riyom LGC, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson who was represented by his Personal Assistant Hon. Gyang Emmanuel Dachung, Dagwom Rwey Riyom HRH Da Samuel Jok who was represented by Dagwom Tahoss Da Nani Manja, Gwom Rwey Bachi HRH Da Gyang Dalyop, Atta’a Aten of Ganawuri HRH Nda Yakubu Chaimang, CAN Chairman Riyom LGA Rev. Emmanuel D. Pam, JNI Representative Alh. Abubakar Shuaibu and Leaders of the various political parties in Riyom LGA who all lauded the initiative and promised to step it down to the people at the community level.
They commended the State Lawmaker for his purposeful and visionary representation.

Wife of the Member, Dr. Rahila Dantong in her remarks appreciated the people for the turnout and the supports being accorded the Legislator. She urged them to take the education of their children seriously and invest greatly in same saying the return therein is huge.

There was distribution of nose masks and hand sanitizers.
